History
The fascination of Hotel la Locanda del Cantoniere is closely linked to the place where it is situated.
Built on the remains of a construction from the First World War, the “Locanda” was the habitation of the cantoniere, the road inspector, whose job it was to oversee the maintenance of the Strada delle Dolomiti, the enchanting Dolomites Road winding its way among mountain passes and valleys.
Planned and built at the behest of the historical association of the Regole d’Ampezzo, today the hotel restaurant is an example of an eco-sustainable mountain tourist construction.
Designed for the purpose of acquainting visitors with the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo, (the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park), which it overlooks, today the former casa cantoniera, or road inspector’s house, of Vervei is the perfect place for couples seeking a romantic hideaway and for family holidays at Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the heart of the UNESCCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites.
The structural improvement of this property of the Regole d’Ampezzo – the institution that manages the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo – was carried out thanks to a contribution by the Veneto Region, funded by Por – for regional competitiveness and employment, a part of the “European Regional Development Fund” (ERDF) 2007-2013.
